Distractions

.
We all have them, distractions. Just when we are set to do things we want to do ~ or that need to be done ~ something else comes up. Something small. Something we can take care of in a hurry, and then we will do what we set out to do. Or something more fun than the things that need to be done. Something that we feel is going to make our life easier later on, or more relaxing, or…
And before we know it, time has passed without us ever touching the things we had planned to do. And it is not that we don’t do anything, or just were ‘lazing around’ necessarily. We have been busy with other things.
Or at least that is often my excuse when I get lost in distractions.

Truth of the matter is that often we have made ourselves busy with other things, just so we don’t have to start with what we had planned in the fist place. When this happens, distractions are a form of procrastination…

As such, distractions are one of the most detrimental things that can stand in the way of us reaching our goals. Worst case is that we never truly start on the path to our goals; yet even when we do start the process, with every distraction we allow to take us off that path, it seems that the accomplishment of our goals is ‘stolen’ from us as it interrupts our focus and invites the mind to wander unto different, often less productive avenues.

But what if the same kind of distraction butts in time and time again? When it is a similar situation that requests our attention instead of the goal we had set for ourselves?

At first, it seems frustrating when this happens. No matter how focussed we are, this other situation keeps coming up with such persistence that we do need to pay attention. Our natural response may well be to deal with the frustration; to transform it, and to move forward on the path toward our goals.

But when this happens, could it be the Universe knocking at our door, telling us that there is another goal waiting for us to achieve; another potential waiting to be unfolded? Is it the Universe indicating that a change in direction is more beneficial to us that accomplishing the goals we have set for ourselves ever can be?

There are any number of ways we can tell the difference between distractions that lead to procrastination, and distractions that turn out to be messages from the Universe.
If we spend our time and energy on distractions that don’t bring us fulfillment, and that are costing us money ~ then it is time to focus!
Yet if we feel truly fulfilled after having paid attention to the ‘distraction’, or when the monetary aspect of life falls into place as we are paying attention to those ~ usually persistent ~ distractions…
Then chances are it hasn’t been a ‘distraction’ after all…
