Food

.
There are all kinds of food.
Health food, whole food, fast food, junk food, comfort food, frozen food…
The interesting thing is that we don’t specify what it is we are eating, we just name a category of our choice to indicate what is on our plate at that moment. This in itself is not as new as we might think; we never truly indicated exactly what we were eating in the good old days either; at that time it was ‘meat and potatoes’.

It seems like we can be divided into two groups when it comes to food:
  • Ultra careful with food and diet.
  • Opportunistic where food and diet are concerned.
The first group often will research what food is healthy, often leading to a diet that is felt will benefit them. These benefits can be health benefits, weight benefits, or just the fact that it makes you feel good when you are doing the right thing.
The second group often seems to make the ‘easy choices’. Pre-prepared meals, comfort food; food that doesn’t take a lot of time to prepare and will fill you up fast.

Whether we are perhaps paying too much attention to the food we eat, or maybe paying too little heed to what we eat; either way it may lead to taking on a diet that on paper is totally healthy for us, or at least makes us feel good, yet which may not be what our bodies need. Especially in the energy we live in at this point in time.

As we are going through changes, the food requirements our bodies have may change as well.
At one time we probably needed lots of carbohydrates because we were involved in hard, physical labor. As the work we do became more mental in nature, one could argue we started to need more proteins and less ‘carbs’…
That being said, whatever nourishment our bodies need is a very personal thing. Saying this one diet is healthy may well be true in general, yet could be even better adjusted for each person, as each person is different and has different needs.

The best way to find out what your body truly needs ~ other than what you want, or what you feel is tasty, comforting, filling etc. ~ it is a good idea to start a conversation with your body and let it help you choose the specific foods that are best for you at that moment.
It takes some getting used to, but when you get the hang of it, it is actually a fun game…

And whichever food you choose to eat, it will benefit you most if you pay attention to it. If you see, it, smell it, taste it, savor it ~ and finally thank it for the sustenance it has give you.
